A Critical Insight Before We All Move On From Shedeur Sanders…

Even the most casual of sports fan has likely heard the recent headlines about Shedeur Sanders.

For much of the 2024 football season, the Colorado quarterback—son of Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders—was considered a top NFL prospect. As the 2025 NFL Draft approached, rumors circulated that Shedeur might slide out of the top ten picks, but no one expected him to freefall to pick #144.

The website Grinding the Mocks analyzed more than 2,400 mock drafts. The consensus slot for Sanders was 20.7—essentially, the 21st overall pick. Coincidentally, the Pittsburgh Steelers held that pick and needed a quarterback.

Everything lined up.
Until it didn’t.

Forecast your June sales—with a confidence interval.
Right now, document the following three numbers for the month of June:

1. Sales goal (dollars)
At the beginning of the year, what was your stated sales goal for the month of June? (If this never happened, email me here and I’ll provide a template for starting now.)

2. Sales prediction (dollars)
Knowing what you know right now, jot down how much you think you’ll sell in June.

3. Confidence interval (percentage)
On a scale of 0-100%, how confident are you in your ability to hit your sales prediction?

When done, it should look like this:
1. Sales goal = $500K
2. Sales prediction = $512K
3. Confidence = 75%

That’s it.

Then stay focused on your top opportunities.
Eliminate distractions and non-sales activities.

Then, on July 1, revisit these three numbers and ask yourself: How close was I? How accurate was my forecast? What can I learn from this and apply in July?

Do this—if for no other reason—than to avoid sounding like Mel Kiper on draft day.

Thanks for reading.
I’ll be back next Thursday.
